Anticipatory obedience

These are dark times.

I’ve been thinking a lot about “good Germans“, about just what’s happening in my country right now, as we accelerate our slide into fascism, authoritarianism, anti-democratic mob rule, whatever it is you want to call it. I’m feeling increasingly like a good German.

The current moment scares the shit out of me, and, at the same time, I know that it’s time (or really, it’s a bit late, but it’s definitely time), to start thinking about what resistance looks like. Not like the (in-retrospect-somewhat-inaptly-named) resistance movement during Trump 1. More like the resistance that was secretive, armed, and courageous in World War II – people prepared to sacrifice everything to fight an evil ruling force.

I think it’s (not?) safe to say that, in the United States, it’s 1933.

Beware anticipatory obedience. [I’m talking to you, Big Law.]
