T and I were just wondering why you never hear of anything being furbished for a first time.
The same question might as well be asked, I suppose, of novating, habilitating, vamping (actually, vamping happens, but in a manner disconnected from revamping). Ditto hauling, storing, newing. And, habbing and furbing, informally.
My favorite is nonplused. I never hear of someone being plused.
This is a separate discussion from how frequently ‘nonplused’ is misused, which is second only to ‘bemused.’
Not to mention “disinterested” or “fulsome.”
I love ‘fulsome.’ It’s one I try to use whenever the occasion merits.
Presently, perhaps I’ll have more to say on the subject of words.
