Why not rub one out?

Earlier today, I wrote about suffering from an overwhelming, distracting horniness. A faithful reader wrote, asking, essentially, why don’t I just jerk off? “Doesn’t masturbating,” she asked, “take care of the ‘urges’?”

Well, first of all, I wasn’t in a great position to rub one out today, just logistically. And my reader’s right enough, I guess, as far as it goes: rubbing one out would provide some short-term relief. But the problem is this. Rubbing one out is sort of like eating a candy bar when I’m hungry. It tastes good, and it makes the hunger go away for a moment, but just a few minutes later, I’m ready for more.

Now – if I’d been in a position today to rub one out? I surely would have. But I didn’t. And I still haven’t. 🙁

  1. I totally agree with the candy bar analogy. Sometimes rather than eating the candy bar I just wait and kind of forget that I’m hungry, and the same applies to the quick jerk. OK, I don’t really forget that I’m horny if I don’t rub one out, but I at least don’t notice that I’m hungry for sex as much as I do after rubbing one out to scratch an itch.

  2. I have an ambivalent relationship with masturbation which has only improved in recent times. But as a general rule I masturbate if that is the particular itch I want to scratch, not as a substitute for something else.
The candy bar analogy holds true. If you are craving something then trying to substitute may give you temporary relief but at the end of the day you will still be craving.
